Jackson Meeks is threatening to take a roster spot away from a Detroit Lions 2025 draft pick.
The undrafted free agent out of Syracuse posted an impressive game versus the Atlanta Falcons last week, posting three receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown. Meeks also hauled in a 68-yard catch from quarterback Kyle Allen, burning Atlanta’s secondary on the play.
Heading into Detroit’s third preseason contest against the Miami Dolphins, Meeks was still considered a long shot to make the roster. However, the 22-year-old is putting together another productive preseason outing and could be on the cusp of taking Dominic Lovett’s roster spot.
Through three quarters on Saturday versus the Dolphins, Meeks has tallied four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown. The young receiver caught all four of his targets and continues to show why he should be on the roster as a depth piece in the wide receiver room.
Meeks’ touchdown was the first points for the day for the Lions, as he snagged a pass from Allen on the sideline on fourth down and walked in the end zone untouched.
“Jackson Meeks has been my dark horse candidate to make the Lions carry six wide receivers,” Kory Woods of MLive.com said on X. “Another week, another touchdown from Kyle Allen. This kid just has an underdog mentality about it.”
With Meeks bolstering his roster case, seventh-round pick Dominic Lovett is now officially in danger. The Georgia product hasn’t had a spectacular preseason and has also missed some time due to an abdominal injury.
Lovett’s play on special teams could propel him to a roster position. However, Meeks is making the competition for the final receiver spot very intriguing due to his recent emergence.
