The Houston Rockets went all-in this offseason, and they might soon be reaping the benefits.

Last season was a transformative year in Houston. After the Rockets had spent the past few years praying for some lottery luck, they finally broke through and made the playoffs, earning the No. 2 seed in the West.

While their rise to the top of the conference was certainly impressive, they still had some question marks as a contender. Of course, they tried to answer those questions loudly this offseason by trading for Kevin Durant.

Sending Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks to Phoenix, the deal was quickly praised as one of the best blockbusters in recent memory. Although Durant’s previous stops haven’t always exactly worked out as intended, this is certainly a worthwhile risk for Houston and one that Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley believes will work out great.

In a recent article, Buckley predicted that Houston’s deal for Durant will age well by this time next summer. Conceding the possibility that Durant could walk in free agency in 2026, Buckley still believes that Houston made the right call by getting the huge piece it was missing offensively and not really sacrificing its defensive identity.

Of course, Durant has some previous experience being coached by Ime Udoka, so there should be a rather seamless transition there. Add in that Durant can take on any role that’s asked of him offensively, and there should be no doubting the type of impact the future Hall of Famer could have in Houston.

While there will be the usual injury concerns, if Durant can simply stay on the floor, this should be viewed as a home run deal for the Rockets in the near future.
