Just when the Tennessee Volunteers thought they had solved their Boo Carter situation, the star safety may be in trouble again.
According to Tennessee insider Tony Basilio, Carter was late to practice recently and possibly more.
I got a tip today,” Basilio said. “And the tip is that Carter, since he got back, came late to practice. And then I started asking around, and I think it was two practices. But one at least, but maybe two.”
“There’s speculation, internally, are they suspending him for the Syracuse game? I don’t know,” he added.
If what Basilio said is true, that’s big news. Earlier this summer it was speculated that Carter may have been looking to enter the transfer portal and possibly leave the team and play for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes.
Those rumors were put to rest when Carter showed up for fall camp with the Vols and everything seemed to be back on track. He was doing what the coaches were asking him to do and working with the team.
With this latest revelation, one has to wonder if there is trouble ahead or just miscommunication.
Vols head coach Josh Heupel says that before Carter was allowed to rejoin the team, he had to agree to do a few things first.
“When we started training camp and I talked to you guys, there were steps that he had to take to continue to earn his place in the scope of what we’re doing as a football team,” said Heupel this past weekend when asked about Carter. “He has taken those steps. He’s continued to grow. I like what he’s been able to do here, in particular the last four days. What’s going to transpire, it’s a day to day. We’re taking it day to day at this point, I guess is the best way to say it.”
You wonder now with this news if Carter has taken a step back and what Heupel plans to do about it.
