Barcelona have been in the same place this summer as they have been since the arrival of Laporta. They are struggling and scrambling for ways to be able to register new signings.
According to La Cadena Ser, the Barcelona board has approved a 7 million euro bank guarantee which would allegedly allow the club to register Marcus Rashford, Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny, and Gerard Martin.
This bank guarantee would be dipping into the club’s accounts temporarily but the amount would have to be made up before the end of the temporary period.
This doesn’t mean the club won’t still try to use Ter Stegen’s salary for more financial space and they are still waiting for the approval of the VIP seats sales. The personal guarantee is for now, and hopefully those other approvals go through to make up the money for the personal guarantee.
Barcelona fans should feel at ease now as it now looks like players will be registered before the first La Liga game of the season against Mallorca.
A bank guarantee has been used by Barcelona before when they registered Jules Kounde 2022 and when they registered Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo in 2023.
It is still disappointing though, as it’s been numerous years now with Barcelona constantly needing to pull things out like player injuries and personal guarantees.
Yes this solves the short-term issue of registering players, but the club shouldn’t be struggling to get to the 1:1 rule.
For now though, it’s a positive that Barcelona will have their full squad at their disposal, excluding Lewandowski’s injury, starting from the first match week.
