When it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers players under the most pressure in 2025, there is no doubt that left tackle Broderick Jones is at or near the top of the list.

A former first-round pick, Jones had a solid rookie season but took a major step back in 2024. Now, Jones is looking to make a successful switch to left tackle, although reports from camp suggest his showing has been up an down.

In a recent Q&A with Steelers offensive line coach Pat Meyer that was done by Tim Benz of TribLive.com, Meyer revealed why fans should be confident about Jones successfully making the switch to the other side of the offensive line.

“This pre-season, he’s been way more detailed, just in this process and the way he’s approached things. He’s been a lot better,” Meyer said of Jones. “He came into the league as a young player (22 years old). Didn’t have a ton of game reps at Georgia. Experience is a big part of it. Maturing as you get a little bit older, and seeing how true pros do things and how they approach things.

“It’s all encompassing with experience, maturity, learning it, understanding… He’s done a nice job,” Meyer concluded.

In 1,071 offensive snaps last season, Jones surrendered 10 sacks and 43 pressures, which amounted to a sophomore slump after he gave up just four sacks and 29 pressures in 766 snaps during his rookie campaign.

Jones was dealing with a groin injury earlier in camp, but head coach Mike Tomlin revealed that he has been better since returning to practice.

“Broderick got slowed by a little day-to-day (groin) injury there for a spell, but has really been on the uptick since his return,” head coach Mike Tomlin said.

Tomlin added that he likes “the trajectory” of the offensive line as a whole but cautioned that the group upfront is “very much in development.”

Jones has gotten off to a good start in the preseason, with the Georgia product not giving up a sack or pressure against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

We should get at least one more look at him this preseason when the Steelers host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in preseason Week 2 on Saturday.
