The 2025/26 Premier League campaign is yet to get underway, but the jury is already out on how far Chelsea can go under Enzo Maresca this season.
While some fans believe the Blues can go all the way and challenge for the top-flight title, others are more cautious over their quality level to really threaten.
Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, believes Maresca’s team will not be able to fight for the title because of one key reason: their goalkeeper.
Carragher believes current Chelsea goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, lacks the necessary quality to lead the Blues to the trophy.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with signing a new goalkeeper all summer but are yet to bring in a new No.1.
With time now running out, as the transfer window closes on September 1, Chelsea look set to continue with Sanchez in goal in 2025/26.

Why Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea won’t win the Premier League
Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation has been a topic of discussion for some time.
While discussing Chelsea’s title credentials on The Overlap Podcast, Carragher said, “Chelsea started winning the leagues when they bought Petr Cech in… No matter what Chelsea have done, or what they’ve spent, they can’t win the league because they haven’t got a goalkeeper to win the league.”

While Carragher does have a case about Sanchez in Chelsea’s goal, the Spaniard did redeem himself towards the end of the last season, and played a key role in Maresca’s charges winning the FIFA Club World Cup.
Additionally, Sanchez is relatively young for a goalkeeper and should get better with time and experience.
New signing Mike Prenders is expected to be deputy at the start of the season with Filip Jorgensen and USA international Gabriel Slonina as further back up.
