Adolis Garcia made a catch that no one has ever made in MLB history.
That sounds like hyperbole, but when you watch it, you’ll understand.
The Texas Rangers right fielder had in his sights what looked like a diving catch, a good but not spectacular play.
But then the ball didn’t stay in his glove, and magic ensued.

It takes absurd instincts and reaction time to make a play like that, to reach out and save that ball from getting away or hitting the ground, just in time for it to still be an out.
Critics will complain that Garcia should’ve just caught the ball initially, but come on.
This is superb.
There have been catches where the wall plays a factor in a bobble and a player makes a stellar grab after the ball bounces around.
There have also been collision-caused bobble catches.

But one like this, with the dive and full extension? That’s brand new.
And that’s the beauty of baseball, really. No one knew that on this random Sunday in the dog days of summer that Garcia would provide a highlight like this one.
But baseball rarely disappoints (unless you’re the Phillies and you really wanted this baserunner). Garcia made sure of that with this play.
