The Seattle Seahawks have a new quarterback under center with Sam Darnold coming over from the Minnesota Vikings. Moreover, the Seattle front office added veterans Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Cooper Kupp as targets for him, but a rookie could surpass these two on the depth chart.
On Saturday, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote a piece spotlighting the players who are looking like steals of the 2025 NFL Draft. When it comes to the Seahawks, Knox believes that fifth-round pick Tory Horton could be poised for a significant role this season.
“Seattle signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Cooper Kupp to help support new quarterback Sam Darnold, but a surprising rookie may become one of its top playmakers,” Knox wrote. “Fifth-round pick and Colorado State product Tory Horton has made quite a bit of noise in training camp.
“… Horton’s momentum continued against the Las Vegas Raiders in his preseason debut. The 6’2″, 196-pound pass-catcher played during the first half and hauled in three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. If he continues to impress, he should have a chance to move past Valdes-Scantling as Seattle’s No. 3 receiver.”

With the preseason underway and rookies impressing during training camp, some of these first-year players could be looking for bigger roles than initially expected.
Valdes-Scantling and Kupp aren’t coming off a stellar season in 2024, so if injuries or poor performances should happen, then that’s where Horton can find his way into being a top and reliable target for Darnold this season, who he can trust in crucial moments of a game.
Horton’s most productive time in college came during his three years at Colorado State, where he played in 30 games while recording 193 receptions, 2,620 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns. With how he’s performing early on in his NFL career, the player appears to be ready to translate his production to the pros.
