The Houston Astros are still staying alive at the top of the AL West division despite struggling to put together winning baseball since July.

Houston has a record of 15-17 since the start of July, and the Seattle Mariners are starting to creep up on the Astros’ division lead. Entering Saturday, Houston has just a 1.5-game lead on the Mariners.

A lot of adjustments have taken place for the Astros after a busy trade deadline, as well as multiple injuries taking place this last month. Houston traded for shortstop Carlos Correa, third baseman Ramon Urias, and Jesus Sanchez to fill the void that Isaac Paredes and Yordan Alvarez have left with their long-term injuries.

The Astros are also awaiting the return of outfielder Jake Meyers, 29, who strained his right calf. He had been dealing with calf tightness before sustaining the injury while trying to play through the discomfort on July 11.

Some fortunate news on Meyers has come out this week: “The Astros announced Monday that Meyers (calf) has resumed running on flat ground, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.”

Meyers has been one of the Astros’ best hit-for-contact players in 2025. Before landing on the 10-day injured list, Meyes had statistics that include a .308 batting average, .369 on-base percentage, .405 slugging percentage, and a .774 OPS, three home runs, 21 RBI, and 14 stolen bases in 89 games.

The outfielder is expected to return to the Astros’ lineup sometime this month. Meanwhile, Houston will continue to get back into the groove of things before losing the division lead with just over a month left in the regular season.
