The Las Vegas Raiders have a few young offensive playmakers with a ton of potential, and the team could look to trade one of them.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox lists tight end Michael Mayer as a trade candidate for the Raiders in the preseason.

“Las Vegas should take a more active approach to moving the 24-year-old this preseason. While it’s impossible to have too much talent at tight end, he probably has more value to the Raiders as a trade chip than as a bit player in the offense,” Knox wrote.

After a promising rookie campaign, Mayer had a rough 2024 campaign. The Notre Dame product missed six games due to personal reasons and wasn’t very productive when on the field, posting 21 receptions for 156 yards in 11 games.

With Brock Bowers already establishing himself as one of the best tight ends in the sport, Mayer’s future in Las Vegas seemed uncertain after 2024. However, the former second-round pick has had a great training camp and is finding a role in Chip Kelly’s offense as the No.2 tight end.

If the Raiders can get a valuable return for Mayer, they should consider trading him. The 24-year-old could fetch Las Vegas a few late-round picks or even a late Day 2 or early Day 3 selection.

However, with Mayer taking strides this offseason and proving to be a nice complement alongside Bowers in the tight end room, it would be wise for the Raiders to keep Mayer on the roster and see what their young tight end duo can do in 2025.
