Tottenham Hotspur have been doing great business this summer as they have made some understated moves ahead of a crucial 2025/26 campaign.
The Lilywhites are set to embark on a new era under the leadership of Thomas Frank, who is all set to improve Tottenham’s situation after an underwhelming last season especially on the domestic front.
The North London outfit have signed players like Mohammed Kudus, Kevin Danso, Mathys Tel, Kota Takai, and Luka Vuskovic this summer.
However, they have now added Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha to the mix on loan to provide more solidity to the midfield.
Following the Portuguese midfielder’s return to Premier League, Tottenham boss Frank revealed he was surprised of Bayern’s stance and how easily they allowed Palhinha to depart.
“Yeah, I was a bit surprised. Bayern went hard for him for two years and for whatever reason, which I actually don’t care about because we can get him, it was an opportunity for us. At this moment in time, there are not many clear number sixes in the market, so we are quite lucky to get him. I think he is a top player. Whatever the reason [Bayern let him go] maybe is the coach, the culture, the club, himself. Sometimes it is difficult to say. My concern is that he wanted to come, and we wanted him to come,” Frank said to the media as quoted by football.london.

Interestingly, Tottenham are all set to face Bayern Munich on August 7 in a friendly clash where Palhinha may go up against his former team.
Why did Bayern Munich allow Joao Palhinha to join Tottenham on loan?
Bayern were desperate to sign Palhinha from Fulham a couple of seasons ago during the reign of Thomas Tuchel as the German manager wanted the Portugal international.

Despite their best efforts Bayern failed to land the 30-year-old within the transfer deadline day, but they signed him a year later in 2024 for a whopping €56m ($64.7m).
However, things changed drastically for the Portuguese midfielder as Tuchel was already out of Bavaria as Vincent Kompany replaced him at Bayern and unfortunately Palhinha had no place in midfield in the Belgian’s preferred playing style.
The 30-year-old failed to cement his spot in the starting eleven and continued to remain as a backup to other midfielders like Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Konrad Laimer and Leon Goretzka.
Although, the Portuguese midfielder wanted to stay in Bavaria and fight for his spot for another season, he was also open to a move to Premier League.
So, when Tottenham came calling, Bayern Munich didn’t stand in his way and allowed him to join Tottenham on loan with a reported buy option for the Lilywhites.
Overall, Palhinha only featured in 25 appearances for the Bavarians since moving from Fulham and if he moves to Tottenham permanently next season then he will be one of the biggest transfer disasters in Bayern Munich’s transfer history.
