The Chicago Cubs bolstered their pitching staff at the Major League Baseball trade deadline by adding pitchers Michael Soroka, Andrew Kittredge, and Taylor Rogers.

Chicago knew it needed to have better pitching when it reached October, and hopefully, the three new pitchers will be able to shut down opposing offenses.

The Cubs should’ve added another pitcher to the roster, and there could be one the team has interest in. Last week, the New York Yankees parted ways with pitcher Marcus Stroman.

The 34-year-old pitcher had a 6.23 ERA in nine games this season. Stroman has been a headache in the Yankees’ clubhouse, and the team decided to part ways with him after they added a handful of pitchers last week.

Stroman played for the Cubs from 2022 to 2023, but Nick Ziegler from Cubs On SI doesn’t think Chicago should want to have a reunion with their former pitcher.

“With the Yankees releasing Marcus Stroman, it will be interesting to see where the former two-time All-Star lands,” Ziegler wrote. “As a team with a need for help in the rotation, the Cubs make sense in terms of a potential fit, but they should be avoiding him. Stroman was an All-Star for Chicago in 2023, but the last two years have not been good for the right-hander. With New York in 2025, he has totaled a 3-2 record and 6.23 ERA. Going back to the second half of last year, Stroman hasn’t been a good pitcher and wouldn’t be an upgrade for the Cubs. Despite it being tempting to try to tap into the potential that Stroman recently had in 2023, he is now 34 years old and seemingly heading in the wrong direction.”

Stroman was locked into a two-year, $37 million contract with the Yankees, and the team will eat the remainder of his $18 million salary.

If the Cubs weren’t in a position to win the World Series, then they could add Stroman, but there is no point messing up the clubhouse for a pitcher whose best days are behind him.
