In case you hadn’t thought about it in a while: No, the Dallas Mavericks’ trade of Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis (and company) still isn’t aging well.

There’s even a number that can be put on it now, too.

The Los Angeles Lakers inked Doncic to a three-year, $165 million contract extension on Saturday. It runs through the 2027-28 season.

Mavs fans, this is the time to avert your eyes.

That’s less money than AD will make over the next three seasons.

Davis has three years and $186 million remaining on his deal.

That $21 million difference works out to $7 million per year. That’s substantial.

Mavericks social media poster Kirk Henderson added this thought to the mix on X:

“We don’t know if Luka would’ve signed a five year max or a 3 year max in Dallas because Nico Harrison traded him in the dead of the night like a coward for the return of a 32 year old guy with ab problems and eye problems who played the same number of games the last 5 years as KP.”

Yeah, that about sums it up.

Doncic has grown into the Lakers’ leader. They’re vetting offseason decisions through him and not through LeBron James.

His future looks like it’ll be long and fruitful in Los Angeles.

In Dallas? Who knows at this point?

Kyrie Irving is hurt. Davis is likely to get hurt. They don’t have a generational superstar like Doncic anymore.

The nightmare isn’t getting better. It’s getting worse, and it’s pricy.

Nico Harrison will not be getting any more fans in Dallas in a hurry, even after lucking into Cooper Flagg. The Mavericks will likely continue to miss Doncic.
