The debate on who is the better quarterback for the Texas Longhorns took a turn when Longhorns wide receiver DeAndre Moore made an interesting comment about former QB Quinn Ewer and new starting QB Arch Manning.
When asked who was the better of the two, Moore said:
“One had baby wheels and one has super wheels.” The reporter then asked, “Which one’s which?” Moore answered, “Oh, you know.”
That has to be a slap in the face to Ewers, considering the fact that he led the Longhorns to the SEC Championship game last year and to back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances.
Ewers was also the same guy who defeated Alabama in Tuscaloosa, which was probably the biggest win in his college career.
While he didn’t lead Texas to a national championship or an SEC title, he brought back a program that was all but left for dead.
As talented as Manning is, he wasn’t good enough to beat out Ewers for whatever reason, which is why it’s interesting to see how so many people have already jumped on the Manning bandwagon without concrete proof that he can beat a top 25 team.
When Ewers left Texas, the expectation was that he would be one of the top QB picks in the draft; instead, Ewers almost didn’t get drafted til the late rounds by the Miami Dolphins, who don’t need a starting quarterback.
Ewers leaving school for the NFL rather than staying one more year at Texas cost him millions, but his gamble might pay off.
He’s with a team whose starting quarterback is injury-prone, so there is a strong possibility that at some point, Ewers might be the starter. According to several reports from Dolphins training camp, Ewers has looked impressive so far.
So who knows, the former Texas QB might be the next Tom Brady.
