Quarterbacks get all the attention.
But Shedeur Sanders isn’t the only member of his family trying to make an NFL roster as a rookie.
Don’t forget about Shilo Sanders, the safety out of Colorado who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
The Bucs signed Shilo quickly after the draft’s conclusion. He was projected by some to go as high as the fifth round, so while his slide wasn’t as notable as Shedeur’s, it was still significant.
But given how quickly Tampa Bay signed Shilo, it was clear they wanted to get a good look at him anyway.
This week, Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles was asked about Shilo, and he gave an informative answer.
“He’s coming along,” Bowles said. “He’s getting the scheme down. He’s made plays like everybody else back there. There are a few tests that come up during the preseason — Tuesday night was one, and the other three preseason games and practices will be others. He’s got a chance to make it.”

The Buccaneers open their preseason schedule on August 9 against the Tennessee Titans.
Coming out of college, it appeared Shilo was a legitimate NFL defensive back prospect. On a pick-six during his Colorado career, he returned the ball for a touchdown at a max speed of 21.5 miles per hour.
In 2024, Shilo had 67 tackles. He began his college career at South Carolina, then went to Jackson State with his father before following to Colorado.
His father Deion, of course, was a star cornerback. Some of the defensive back instincts and lessons learned have likely been passed down to his son.
Shilo still has a lot of work to do. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL as an undrafted player.
But he’s got a chance, and he’s got a defensive-minded head coach who seems to believe in him.
It’ll be up to Shilo to go out on the field for the next month and prove he belongs.
