The Cleveland Guardians at the MLB trade deadline were one of the top teams to watch. With plenty of interesting players who could be dealt, the trade rumors were flying, especially around left fielder Steven Kwan.
However, despite strong pursuit, as Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports, the Guardians are not trading Kwan at the trade deadline. Kwan remains in Cleveland, and the baseball world misses out on a potential blockbuster trade.

Kwan was one of the top players available at the deadline, and despite rumors and reports that Kwan could be traded, or that specific teams were being aggressive in their pursuit of him, the three-time Gold Glover is staying in Cleveland.
This season, Kwan earned his second All-Star nod and has been solid once again at the plate. He has a .285 batting average with a .758 OPS and a 108 OPS+. He’s also struck out the 6th fewest times this season, striking out just 38 times across 402 at-bats.

At 27 years old, and under team control through the 2027 season, Kwan was a highly valuable trade chip for the Guardians. They asked for the San Diego Padres’ top prospect, Leo De Vries, who they later traded to the Athletics for Mason Miller.
But, just like how the Padres looked elsewhere, so did the rest of the Major leagues, evidenced by Kwan remaining with the Guardians. There were plenty of contenders interested in Kwan, but none swung the deal for him at the deadline.
The two-time All-Star is staying in Cleveland, at least, for the rest of the 2025 season. He could be dealt in the offseason or at next year’s trade deadline. But, for now, the Guardians are keeping Kwan on the Guardians, despite plenty of interest.
