More bullpen help is on the way for the Detroit Tigers, as they have acquired Texas Rangers relief pitcher Codi Heuer for cash consideration. Heuer is set to report to the Tigers’ Triple-A affiliate, the Toledo Mudhens.

Heuer has recorded a 3-2 pitching record with a 3.43 ERA and four saves in 35 appearances with the Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express, this season. Heuer has been impressive at the minor league level with the Rangers and will be a valuable addition to Detroit’s farm system moving forward.

Among the Pacific Coast League pitchers with at least 30 outings this season, Heuer ranks ninth with a 31.4 strikeout percentage. He also ranks 15th with an 8.9 walk percentage.

Heuer has experience playing at the MLB level with 37 appearances with other teams, including the Chicago White Sox and Cubs. He has a 10-4 pitching record with three saves and a 3.61 ERA in his starts at the MLB level.

The Tigers designated left-handed pitcher Dietrich Enns for assignment to make room for Heuer on Detroit’s 40-man roster. Detroit also recently designated starting pitcher Matt Manning for assignment to make space for Cleveland Guardians relief pitcher Paul Sewald.

Heuer becomes the fourth relief pitcher to be acquired by the Tigers before the MLB trade deadline. In addition to acquiring Sewald and Heuer, the Tigers also acquired Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Rafael Montero and Washington Nationals reliever Kyle Finnegan.

The Tigers are hoping that the additions to their bullpen at the trade deadline can help them close out games in the postseason.
