Shane Bieber is now a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. It appears, with first place in the American League East as their bumper heading into August, Toronto is going for it all in 2025.
The Cleveland Guardians, who lost two pitchers recently to MLB suspension, and started Thursday at .500, at 54-54, appear to be sellers.
The 30-year-old right-hander is a two-time American League All-Star and was the Cy Young in 2020. That season, he also won the Triple Crown, as wins, ERA, and strikeout leader.
Since that season, though, Bieber has gone 28-18, made just two starts in 2024, and had Tommy John surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament. Bieber has not pitched since April 2, 2024. He did make a rehab start this week and was sharp in the game, leaving many to speculate that his return to MLB was soon.
He re-signed with the Guardians in December and has a player option for the 2026 season.

In exchange for Bieber, the Guardians will receive Toronto’s No. 5 prospect, Kal Stephen, a Class AA pitcher. This is a clear indication that the Toronto Blue Jays are in it to win it in 2025, and why not? The American League is up for grabs, as Detroit and Houston have shown signs of faltering throughout the season as well.
Without Bieber, Cleveland will host the Minnesota Twins over the weekend. The Blue Jays, host the Kansas City Royals over the weekend.
