Arsenal and Newcastle United clash on Sunday in a preseason game at Singapore’s National Stadium.

The Gunners defeated AC Milan 1-0 at this venue on Wednesday as Mikel Arteta and his players enjoyed a positive start to their tour of Asia. Newcastle were beaten 4-0 by Celtic in their most recent friendly game a week ago.

The build-up to this meeting of two of the Premier League’s best sides has been overshadowed by talk surrounding two strikers, neither of whom will be playing here: Arsenal have finally put a deal in place to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, while Newcastle were rocked by the news that Alexander Isak, who is nursing a thigh injury, is keen to explore his options during the transfer window.

Eddie Howe will be eager for his side to prove they will be a force to be reckoned with in 2025/26 amid the turbulence of a window in which things have not gone well for the Magpies.

Arsenal vs. Newcastle United lineups, team news

New midfield signing Christian Norgaard started against AC Milan, while fellow new arrivals Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi were on the bench and saw time in the second half.

Noni Madueke, signed from Chelsea last week, will not feature yet as he is on a short break following the Blues’ FIFA Club World Cup campaign. Viktor Gyokeres has not yet completed his move and will need time to link up with the club and get to training before he can appear in a match.

Arsenal’s only injury worry at this point in preseason is the continued recovery of forward Gabriel Jesus from his ACL tear last winter. Jesus is expected to be ready for action soon but will be brought back slowly given his history of knee injuries.

Arsenal lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Raya (GK) — White, Saliba, Calafiori, Lewis-Skelly — Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice — Saka, Havertz, Martinelli

With reports that Alexander Isak is trying to force his way out of Newcastle, it’s unlikely that the striker will play in preseason matches until the situation is resolved, even if he recovers from an apparent thigh issue.

Lewis Hall is currently the only Newcastle player struggling with an injury, but his ankle issue isn’t thought to be serious.

New winger Anthony Elanga should be ready to play significant minutes moving forward after coming off the bench against Celtic.

Newcastle lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Pope (GK) — Trippier, Schar, Burn, Targett — Tonali, Guimaraes, Willock — Elanga, Osula, Gordon
