Early departures from practice due to injury have become the norm for the Detroit Lions early on in training camp.

And that trend continued on Thursday, as cornerback Terrion Arnold and linebacker Derrick Barnes both exited with injuries, according to Justin Rogers of the Detroit Football Network.

Rogers adds that Arnold is dealing with a leg injury, while it’s a hand issue for Barnes. The severity of the injuries remains unclear and we aren’t likely to get an official update until head coach Dan Campbell addresses the media on Friday.

The Lions have seen a handful of players exit practice early since training camp began, and there are several others who are either on injured lists or aren’t practicing because of an injury issue.

Barnes is coming off a season in which he missed all but three games because of a significant knee injury. Arnold played in 16 of 17 games last season, with a groin injury being responsible for his lone absence.

Arnold is set to return to his starting role on the boundary, where he’ll be flanked by new cornerback D.J. Reed, who was signed to replace Carlton Davis after he moved on with the New England Patriots.

Barnes is currently slated to be the Lions’ third linebacker behind Alex Anzalone and Jack Campbell, but he could step into an even bigger role depending on what happens with the former, who is currently in the midst of a contract dispute with Detroit.
