The Michigan Wolverines may have been one of college football’s biggest surprise teams after they upset Ohio State in the regular season’s final week, before upsetting Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl to end the year at 8-5. It was a far cry from the team’s national championship season in 2023, but things may be looking up with a fresh look.
Michigan leveled up in a huge way with the signing of former five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, the nation’s No. 1 prospect.
Even with the intrigue around Underwood, CBS Sports’ Cody Nagel isn’t quite sold on the Wolverines this fall.
“Moore is 2-0 against Ohio State if you include his fill-in performance for a suspended Jim Harbaugh in 2023,” Nagel wrote.”That should carry weight, but Moore wasn’t overly successful in his first full season as Michigan’s coach in 2024.”
Nagel says the quarterback position is the biggest concern.
“Had the Wolverines fielded a legitimate quarterback, perhaps they could’ve done more with a defense that ranked top-20 nationally in scoring,” Nagel added.

Michigan’s season got off to a bumpy start once Big Ten play officially began, which included losses to Washington, Illinois and Oregon, to name a few.
Things began to turn late in the season as Michigan fought to become bowl-eligible. The upset against the Buckeyes was the arguably cherry on top, and now it’s seeking much more.
Michigan has a chance to make it five-straight against Ohio State in November in Ann Arbor when “The Game” commences Thanksgiving weekend.
Next month, everything will come to fruition.
