Detroit Lions starting right guard Graham Glasgow is happy to be back at his natural position.

The 33-year-old had to play left guard full time in 2024 for the first time since 2017 due to the Lions signing Kevin Zeitler to a one-year deal to serve as the starting right guard.

However, with Zeitler departing to the Tennessee Titans in free agency, Glasgow can now move back to right guard, the position he excelled at from 2019 to 2023.

Glasgow talked about his move back to the right side and also spoke about playing left guard in 2024, something he didn’t want to do.

“I am so much more happy at right guard,” Glasgow told the Free Press on Sunday, July 20, after the Lions’ first practice of training camp. “I was trying to be a good guy about (switching positions last year). I mean, you bring in somebody that just played right guard for 12 years, you kind of got to smile about it. … But things are going good. I’m happy to be playing right guard.”

“I’m like, ‘I’m re-signing with the intention on playing right guard,’” Glasgow added. “That’s my preference. Like, I really want to play right guard over left guard. He’s like, ‘But would you (play left guard) if we needed you to?” And I’m like, ‘Well, I guess I would. I guess.’ But I kept reemphasizing, ‘But I would really rather not.’ And then that ended up happening. It was interesting. It was a good learning experience, but I’m happy that I don’t have to do it again.”

Making the switch to left guard last year was an incredibly selfless move by Glasgow. However, it’s clear that the Michigan product is more comfortable at right guard and is a better play there.

Heading into the 2025 season, the Lions will need Glasgow to be a reliable and consistent starter on the right side next to Penei Sewell, especially with the uncertainty at center and left guard.
