The Cleveland Browns confused a lot of people with their NFL Draft strategy.

Their picks included a reach on a quarterback in the third round (Dillon Gabriel) followed by ending the slide of another QB in round five (Shedeur Sanders).

Now, those two are in competition with Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett in an odd four-man race in Cleveland.

The Athletic’s Vic Tafur thinks it’s simpler than that, though.

He predicts the veterans will get the top two spots on the depth chart and that only Sanders will survive.

Why?

“Shedeur Sanders should get a much-needed win and beat out Dillon Gabriel for the No. 3 job, as the Browns will learn you can’t draft a short quarterback in the third round just because he has a firm handshake and intangibles,” Tafur wrote.

Not holding back there against Gabriel.

The lefty was a prolific statistical compiler in college with great accuracy, but it’s not clear he has NFL-level traits. He wasn’t expected to be taken until the late rounds of the draft, if at all.

But the Browns chose him at No. 94, then took Sanders and complicated things further.

Now, it’s a competition that could still be undecided a month from now.
