The Miami Hurricanes went all-in on a transfer portal quarterback this past winter—for the second straight year. This time, it was Georgia’s Carson Beck, a pleasant surprise for Miami fans at the time. Beck may have originally chosen the Hurricanes for the money—and possibly his ex-girlfriend, Hanna Cavinder.
“Georgia transfer quarterback Carson Beck is expected to receive an NIL package that pays him $4 million in 2025,” CBS Sports reported back in January. “A massive sum but one that is still less than an initial asking price industry sources believe would have shattered the highest-paid NIL deal in college football history.”
Now, just over a month before the season even begins, Beck is expected to potentially earn $6 million after incentives. The exact details of those incentives remain unclear, but it could end up being a major payday in Coral Gables.
Despite being the only quarterback in the ACC with two national championships, Beck is ranked third at his position in the conference, according to On3’s Andy Staples. He sits behind Cade Klubnik and Duke transfer Darian Mensah.

Klubnik’s ranking is understandable—he enters the season as the most hyped quarterback in the ACC for Clemson. However, Mensah being ranked above Beck raises some eyebrows, especially considering he didn’t play in the ACC last season and has no championships to his name.
At the end of the day, rankings are just rankings—and they don’t mean much until the players hit the field on the last Saturday of August. Beck has a lot riding on this season. It’s a critical opportunity to prove he’s not just one of the best in the ACC, but in all of college football.

With Beck under center, the Hurricanes believe they can make a serious push for the College Football Playoff. Coming off a UCL injury suffered in the SEC Championship game against Texas, Beck now has even more motivation to prove he’s ranked far too low on Andy Staples’ list.
