In the final minute of the Indiana Fever’s 85-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night, Caitlin Clark experienced an unfortunate moment of deja vu. The superstar point guard appeared to tweak her groin in a recurrence of an injury that cost her five games this season — and as she went to the bench, Clark was visibly emotional amid fears of another physical setback.

Clark had avoided injuries throughout her NCAA and WNBA stints until this season. The two-time All-Star has missed 10 games with quadriceps and groin injuries; the physical problems have affected her stats.

Over her past seven games played, Clark has shot only 14 percent from 3-point range. In road games this season, Clark is shooting only six percent from beyond the arc.

However, it is possible that Clark’s new groin injury may not be as bad as first feared.

The Fever’s injury report lists Clark as “questionable” to face the New York Liberty at Barclays Center on Wednesday night. But with the All-Star Game just three days away — and Clark captaining one of the teams — it might not be in Indiana’s best interest to have its star player play through a possible injury on a back-to-back.

Regardless of the result in Brooklyn on Wednesday, the Commissioner’s Cup champion Fever will enter the All-Star break in a playoff spot. Entering Wednesday’s 7:30 PM Eastern tip-off, Indiana is 12-10 and sixth in the overall standings.
