The Dallas Cowboys certainly have a position battle on their hands at running back entering training camp.

They’ve got two new veterans, Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. They’ve got two new rookies, Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah. And then there’s the returning Deuce Vaughn.

SI’s Randy Gurzi wonders if two guys from that list might wind up cut.

Gurzi writes that Sanders could be the veteran to go.

“One of four new running backs on the roster, Miles Sanders is in danger of being released before taking a snap in Dallas,” Gurzi writes. “He impressed during minicamp, but has been a non-factor since leaving Philadelphia. He’s going to have to outperform several backs to keep his spot, which might not be realistic.”

Gurzi also thinks Vaughn could be in danger, although a Sanders cut alleviates that a bit.

“If Miles Sanders is cut, this player won’t be in much danger,” Gurzi writes. “Still, there’s a chance Deuce Vaughn doesn’t get a third season with the Cowboys. He hasn’t exactly taken off when given the opportunity and averages just 2.8 yards per attempt. The arrival of Conor Riley, his former playcaller at Kansas State, will help but Vaughn has to show improvement.”

It’s definitely a position battle worth watching in general.

Dallas has a strong passing game ready to go with Dak Prescott throwing to CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. The success of the overall offense will depend on who wins the RB battle.
