The New York Yankees’ starting rotation has dealt with injuries all season. An injury scare for Max Fried could force the team to make a move for a starting pitcher.

Fried left his last start after three innings because of a blister. He said after the game, it was too early to tell if it would play a role down the line. He is an All-Star this season and has a 2.43 ERA. He has led the rotation all year, and losing him would put the Yankees in a tough position.

Luis Gil has not pitched yet this season, and Gerrit Cole’s season was over before it ever started. Carlos Rodón has been great this year, but after him and Fried, the rotation has question marks. Marcus Stroman has pitched fine since his return, but his track record with the Yankees is far from great. Will Warren and Cam Schlittler are not exactly reliable options when October starts.

When healthy, the Yankees would have Fried, Rodón and Gil. However, an injury to any of them puts the team in a difficult situation. After Fried’s injury scare, FanSided’s Jake Elman suggested the Yankees trade for Jose Quintana of the Milwaukee Brewers.

“Quintana should come cheap, partly because he is cheap; he’s owed less than $2 million the rest of the season,” wrote Elman. “Milwaukee can also afford (pun not intended) to part ways with Quintana, given rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski’s sudden emergence.”

Quintana is in his 14th season and has a 3.28 ERA on the year. He has been great for the Brewers, but they already have a surplus of starters. Logan Henderson is in Triple-A and has a strong argument to be back in the big leagues. Nestor Cortes is also working his way back, and the Brewers do not currently have a spot for him in the rotation.

Quintana is going to be a free agent after the season, and the Brewers could move him if they want to keep Cortes in the mix. He would be great insurance for the Yankees and would be an upgrade over Warren or Stroman in the starting rotation.
