England Women will look to seal a berth in the Women’s Euro 2025 quarterfinal when they face local rivals Wales Women in their last group fixture on Sunday.

The England Lionesses are coming off a convincing 4-0 win over the Netherlands last time out, a much-needed victory for the defending champions after their heartbreaking 1-2 defeat against Les Bleues in their opening match. Sarina Wiegman’s side are currently sitting at the second spot in Group D and have equal points with the third-place Netherlands. 

Wales Women, who are currently ranked 30th in the world, have had a difficult journey so far in their first-ever major tournament. The Dragons lost both their matches against 0-3 Netherlands and 4-1 France in the tournament and are currently placed at the bottom of the table.

Lauren James, who Wiegman had faced questions over her fitness approaching the competition, held the offensive in the palm of her hand with two sensational goals. Ella Toone’s performance and goal in the 67 minute is also likely to have earned her a spot in the upcoming match, after the Netherlands match was her first start in the tournament thus far.

Russo, despite having her header disallowed, assisted three goals – strengthening her reputation as one of the most dangerous attackers in the world, having been Top Goal Scorer the recent WSL.

Wiegman is expected to present an unchanged starting XI for the final group stage game, with Carter and Greenwood having swapped positions to central defense and left back respectively, injecting the English defensive side with a new vigor and power.
