DJ LeMahieu was a bit of a surprise release by the New York Yankees.
Now, the veteran and two-time batting champion is a free agent looking for what’s next.
The Yankees got backed into a corner a bit. They decided they needed to move Jazz Chisholm back to second base, and LeMahieu didn’t really have another spot to play given that first base and DH are also crowded in the Bronx.
There was some question as to what LeMahieu would do next.
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports his goal for the rest of the season.
“DJ LeMahieu, now a free agent, is looking to sign with a team for the rest of 2025,” Morosi wrote on X. “His best fits are with teams that could utilize him at 1B, 2B, and/or DH.”

LeMahieu is a career .289 hitter, and he was batting .266 this season before his release, so he’s still got a bit left to offer with a bat.
It’d make sense for LeMahieu to wait a bit and see what team with playoff potential may have room to get him in the lineup.
But it sounds like he definitely wants to get back on the diamond this season.
