For Golden State Warriors fans, the end of the 2016 season is not one they want to remember. The idea of signing a player from that Cleveland Cavaliers team just doesn’t sound right. However, one player from that team is soon to become available, and the Warriors have to consider him.
Would a Warriors-Kevin Love signing work? It looks like, after the LA Clippers-Miami Heat trade, Love is likely to be bought out by the Utah Jazz and enter the free agency market.
The Warriors would not be signing the Love that they almost swapped for Klay Thompson years ago. Kevin Love’s best years are behind him, but he can still potentially help a contending team.
Last season, he only played 10 minutes per game for the Heat but averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest. He was more of a veteran leader in the locker room than a help on the court.
That’s why the Warriors will have to get some intel on just how much real basketball Love has left in his body. A Warriors-Kevin Love signing would definitely be a risk. That being said, the Warriors have long wanted a stretch big man. Getting one with a championship pedigree like Love is just the cherry on top.

Still, the Warriors don’t really need another old dude who can’t play defense. They are already likely going to sign Al Horford, giving them their veteran stretch five. Even if they don’t get Horford, they need to be focused on players who can help in the playoffs, especially on defense.
