The Green Bay Packers are confident in the roster they’ve assembled—especially with quarterback Jordan Love, who appears poised for a breakout season. However, if Love struggles again in 2025, he could find himself on the hot seat under newly appointed CEO Ed Policy.

“He’s not on the hot seat per se, but he needs to play better in 2025 than he did in 2024. If not, he will be on the hot seat in 2026. The wild card in Green Bay is new CEO Ed Policy, who operates as the de facto owner of the team,” Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio wrote.

Despite Love’s situation, the Packers could make a major defensive move to help secure his position—and elevate the entire team. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler floated a bold idea involving a Wisconsin native.

“I’m gonna make TJ Watt happy, the player, hey, come home to Wisconsin,” Fowler said. “Play for the hometown, home area Packers. The Green Bay Packers are actually low key looking at the pass rush market around free agency, potential trades, potential signings. They have some new cap space after they moved on from Jaire Alexander, the star cornerback. Why not use that money and make TJ Watt the highest paid edge rusher?”

A potential trade proposal has Watt heading to Green Bay in exchange for a pair of players and premium draft picks.

“Romeo Doubs would fix a need at wide receiver, giving Rodgers an ideal WR2 to pair with DK Metcalf and tight end Jonnu Smith, whom they just traded for. Lukas Van Ness hasn’t proven himself at the NFL level, but he still offers first-round upside. Pittsburgh would also receive two premium picks to help remain in contention beyond the Rodgers era. The Packers would show some real urgency by giving away a first and a third, but adding Watt could take Jeff Hafley’s defense to another stratosphere,” wrote Freddie Boston of Lombardi Ave.

The Packers could afford to make Watt the highest-paid edge rusher in the league—just as he desires. Pulling off such a move would be a clear signal: Green Bay is serious about making a Super Bowl run.
