Shedeur Sanders is just a few weeks away from his first NFL training camp with the Cleveland Browns. The former Colorado quarterback has been mentored by Deshaun Watson, but that may no longer be the case after Watson’s QB coach criticized Sanders’ father.
“The reason I have such a difficult time with Deion is because so many of the things he does, it’s about him rather than other people,” Avery said, referring to Sanders’ work as the coach at Colorado. “I think that a lot of people miss that. So we get to see who he is as a person when he has to take on this team without his sons involved.”
To make matters worse, things aren’t going Sanders’ way in the Browns’ QB1 battle, as Dillon Gabriel and Kenny Pickett seem to be leading the race.
“I was told from somebody that’s in the building, that ain’t a player, it’s really coming down to Kenny Pickett or Dillon Gabriel,” TJ Houshmandzadeh said. “That’s what I was told.”
Sanders recently appeared on the Toronto Argonauts’ negotiation list and has been rumored to potentially play for them if his NFL plans don’t pan out.
However, there is little concern that Sanders won’t make the Browns’ roster once it is trimmed. Sports Illustrated’s Matthew Schmidt dismissed the rumors about Sanders heading to the CFL.

“While there is no guarantee that Sanders will be a smashing success for the Browns right off the bat, it also seems incredibly hard to imagine the signal-caller heading to play football in Canada. Barring a drastic turn of events, it just isn’t happening. Right now, Sanders is battling with three other quarterbacks for the starting job in Cleveland, and he seems rather unlikely to be under center heading into Week 1. We all understand that. But it doesn’t mean that Sanders will suddenly be banished from the NFL,” Schmidt wrote.
Sanders is focused on building a successful NFL career, and the Argonauts having him on their negotiation list has only distracted from that. He is likely to suit up in an NFL jersey this season.
