The Denver Broncos got revenge on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday with a 28-24 win to split the season series. It came down to the final play, but the Broncos’ defense got the better of the Chiefs’ offense.
As is usually the case in Broncos’ games, Denver was down double digits as the Chiefs took a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter. However, the Broncos stormed back with 15 unanswered points in the final frame to take the lead for good.
There were several huge moments in the contest that both teams will revisit when looking back. From Harrison Butker’s missed 54-yard field goal to a huge Jonah Coleman catch-and-run, Denver got the benefit of all the important final moments of the game.
No moment was as important as the final play of the game, when the Broncos executed the game-winning goal-line stand to get the win. Denver got a little help from a sloppy Kansas City offensive line, but they will take it and run.
Here’s a look at the final moments of the Chiefs-Broncos game.

Chiefs’ final possession vs. Broncos
The Chiefs were in position to take the lead and win the game late against the Broncos, but Kansas City’s final possession was not good enough to take the lead. After getting the ball back with 1:56 left in the game, the Chiefs marched down the field in plenty of time, getting to first-and-goal with 15 seconds left and one timeout.
The first three plays featured two Kenneth Walker runs and a Patrick Mahomes interception, putting the Chiefs at 4th-and-goal from the one-yard line with four seconds left. With one final play, the Chiefs had a chance to pull off the victory as time expired.
On the play from the one, the Chiefs called a shotgun pass that seemed to result in a touchdown, but right tackle Jaylon Moore was called for a false start, moving the Chiefs back to the six. Then, on the actual final play of regulation, the Broncos’ pass rush got to Mahomes for the sack, ending the game before the quarterback got the pass off.

It was among the most impactful plays of the NFL season thus far. With the win, the Broncos improve to 6-2 and are 0.5 games up on the Chiefs in the AFC West. Had Kansas City won, the Chiefs would have been 1.5 games up on Kansas City with a full tiebreaker secured in the division.
The Chiefs have now lost two straight games, both coming against the two teams that finished last year with the best records in their conference. Denver, meanwhile, has won four straight games and six of their last seven since dropping the Week 1 game to the Chiefs.
