The New England Patriots are 4-2 in the regular season, which is made all the more impressive considering the struggles this offense has gone through this season.

It’s not just Drake Maye’s turnover struggles or the offensive line getting banged up; it’s the wide receiver room’s seemingly constant shuffling. A.J. Brown just came back from injured reserve, but they got some bad news just days later.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Patriots are placing Romeo Doubs on injured reserve, making for the second IR stint for a big WR addition for New England this season.

Patriots lose another WR to IR amid Romeo Doubs news

“The Patriots placed WR Romeo Doubs on injured reserve with a shoulder injury and signed DB Elliott Davison to the 53-man roster from the practice squad,” Rapoport reports.

This is a massive blow for the Patriots’ offense, as they, once again, lose a big-time offseason addition to the WR room to IR this year.

Through six weeks, the Patriots have seen A.J. Brown and now Romeo Doubs land on IR already this season. Add in Mack Hollins, also on IR, and the Patriots’ WR room has really been tested this season.

Demario Douglas, Efton Chism III, and Kyle Williams will see plenty of work alongside Brown going forward for the Patriots. Hunter Henry and Eli Raridon should also see a decent share of targets from Maye these next few weeks.

With Doubs hitting IR following Week 6, that means he’ll be forced to miss the next four games the Patriots play.

Fortunately, Doubs can get five weeks off while only missing four games, as the Patriots have just four games to go before their Week 11 bye.

New England will be without Doubs for Week 7 against the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football, followed by games against the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, and Detroit Lions before the bye.

His first chance to come back for New England will come in Week 12 against the Los Angeles Chargers, a team that will likely have sold at the NFL trade deadline by that point, and might be an easy matchup for Doubs to return to.
