The Los Angeles Rams are going to be without Myles Garrett for a few more weeks, as he was placed on injured reserve after Week 1’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

He’ll be forced to miss at least four weeks, meaning he’s already been ruled out through Week 5 of the 2026 NFL season. But beyond that, he’s available to come back. The only question is, when will he be good to come off IR?

Well, according to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, the Rams actually got some good news when the “worst-case” scenario for Garrett was revealed. The reason why that’s the case is that his worst possible return date is only six weeks after his injury.

How Myles Garrett’s worst-case return date is good news for Rams

“Though there was a report last week Garrett could be out up to six weeks, one source views that as a worst-case scenario,” Jones writes. “A second team source believes Garrett will make his return by Oct. 25 against the Raiders.”

Garrett is going to miss four weeks at minimum. That means he’ll be out through Week 5. Afterwards, he’s eligible to come off IR for the Rams.

While there is reporting that suggests he could be back as soon as Week 6, there isn’t any confirmation that it’s the week he’ll be back.

Fortunately for the Rams, however, the worst-case scenario with Garrett’s return being revealed as six weeks missed, or a Week 8 return, is not a bad scenario at all.

While the Rams would surely prefer to have Garrett back before then, a six-week injury being the “worst-case scenario” for Garrett, as Jones shared from a Rams source, is some good news.

The sooner he returns, the better. He can be back starting in Week 6, but even if he’s forced to sit longer, this report indicates it would be a surprise if he’s not back by Week 8 at the latest.

That’s still a ways away, but all things considered, a six-week absence for Garrett at the start of the season being the “worst-case scenario” is not actually that bad of an outcome.
