When KC Concepcion approached the podium at the NFL Combine, the Texas A&M wide receiver had every reason to shy away. Concepcion went to face the media, and he did it extremely well delivered a moment the internet couldn’t stop talking about.
Unfortunately, not all of the reaction was kind.
The cruel comments that followed hit Charles Barkley personally. On The Steam Room podcast, he didn’t hold back, getting visibly emotional.
“Y’all reached a new low for me, and it hurt me,” Barkley said. “Now, I’m getting emotional because I was so pissed when I heard about it.”
Barkley called out the truth; it’s widely normal. But the hate is certainly uncalled for.
“This kid has a stuttering problem and a speech impediment,” he continued. “Then I saw some of my friends — who know why I hate social media — sent me some of the comments that you people were making about this kid. Man, you are the lowest people.”
He went on to call out the anonymous cruelty enabled by social media.
“To see all the mean-spirited comments. I’m like, yo, who sits at home behind a computer and says, ‘Hey, you know what? Let me make fun of this kid.'”
