The Vikings enter free agency without a full-time general manager, as Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s replacement isn’t expected to be hired until after the draft, but GM Rob Brzezinski still has important decisions to make.

One of them is the quarterback position, which is expected to see a veteran brought in to compete with J.J. McCarthy. Whether that is Kyler Murray or another signal-caller, the quarterback question will go a long way toward determining the Vikings’ outlook in 2026.

The offseason could be just as much about subtraction for Minnesota as it is about addition. DT Jonathan Allen and RB Aaron Jones were cap casualties, while pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard is a potential trade candidate due to his cap hit. Meanwhile, center Ryan Kelly announced his retirement from the NFL.

As the Vikings make their moves, all eyes remain on a potential playoff return next season.

Here’s a look at the latest news, rumors, signings and trades for the Vikings in free agency.

Vikings free agency rumors, news, updates

Vikings add CB James Pierre

The Vikings made their first free agent signing by giving former Steelers CB James Pierre a two-year, $8.5 million deal with $3.7 million guaranteed. Pierre spent the last six seasons in Pittsburgh, starting only 13 of 95 games but playing a career-high 38 percent of defensive snaps in 2025 with 11 pass deflections and an interception.

Vikings emerge as favorites for QB Kyler Murray

The Vikings are the early favorites for former Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, according to Tom Pelissero, though he is expected to have a robust market. With the Cardinals paying out Murray’s contract in 2025, the former No. 1 pick can pick his team with more of a focus on fit than money, and the fit could be strong with Minnesota searching for a veteran to compete with J.J. McCarthy.
