One of the Atlanta Braves‘ best pitchers in recent history is hanging up his cleats.

Julio Teheran announced his retirement from baseball on Monday.

The right-handed pitcher is at the World Baseball Classic with Colombia, but he had to be scratched from a start over the weekend due to a last-minute injury in warmups.

Now, he’s decided that his career is complete.

He most recently pitched in the majors in 2024 for the New York Mets, when he made just a single outing and allowed four runs in 2.2 innings.

He also pitched to an 8.82 ERA with Triple-A Norfolk and a 9.18 ERA with Triple-A Iowa in 2024.

Teheran spent 2052 pitching in the Mexican League and had a 6.95 ERA in 14 appearances.

It’s a long time since Teheran was an All-Star for the Braves. He spent nine seasons with Atlanta, winning 77 games and putting up a 3.67 ERA.

He then pitched for the Angels, Tigers, Brewers and Mets.

Teheran was twice an All Star with the Braves, including in the 2014 season when he finished with a 2.89 ERA, and again in 2016 when he finished with a 3.21 ERA.

His career marks in the majors included 81 wins and a 3.85 ERA.

Now, he’s moving on to his next chapter.
