The rumors surrounding Jack Hughes and Tate McRae ‘s relationship have been officially confirmed, and we now know how the romance began.
Hughes, 24, slid into the Canadian singer’s, 22, DMs before they decided to give their budding relationship a try.
“Tate and Jack are dating,” a source confirmed to “Us Weekly.” “They started casually seeing each other late last year, so it’s still new, but they are exclusively seeing each other.”
According to the outlet, the New Jersey Devils star first “messaged her (McRae) on IG and started a conversation.”
McRae clearly liked whatever the Olympic gold medalist’s message said, as she’s since taken herself off of the singles market.
“She thinks he is a really cool guy and they have been having a lot of fun together,” the insider said, adding, “Tate thinks he’s really sweet and it’s going well so far.”
“She has been so supportive of his career and has been loving going to the games and cheering him on,” the source continued. “They are making it work during this busy season, but hope to have more time together next month when his season ends.”

Tate McRae’s past connection to ice hockey
Hughes and McRae are yet to confirm their romance.
The pair were first linked in December 2025 when the “Greedy” singer was spotted at a New Jersey Devils game. After they left the ice, the pair stepped out in New York City together.
Long before she started dating Hughes, McRae had a thing for ice hockey.
She dated NHL star Cole Sillinger from 2021 to 2023 and seemingly included her appreciation for the sport in one of her music videos.
Her 2023 single “Greedy” showed her driving around a Simi Valley, California ice rink – about 40 miles from Los Angeles – on a Zamboni before she moved inside an arena’s changing room.
