There is no team around the NFL that needs to add more help on the defensive side of the ball this offseason than the Cincinnati Bengals.

While the offense is mostly set, minus some depth pieces, the defense in Cincinnati needs major renovations. One of the biggest areas of concern is the defensive line.

Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated named the Bengals as a landing spot for one of the top interior defensive linemen in this year’s free agent class, in projected $42 million, 7.5 sack Denver Broncos free agent John Franklin-Myers.

Bengals linked to John Franklin-Myers amid $42M projection

“John Franklin-Myers, DL, Broncos. Projected contract: Three years, $42 million,” Manzano writes. “Potential landing spots: Bengals, Titans.”

The Broncos defensive lineman is set to hit free agency, and the Bengals, with a major need, could look to Franklin-Myers as their big offseason addition along the line.

He’s 29 years old and coming off a strong season for Denver’s defense. He recorded 7.5 sacks, the most of any season in his seven-year NFL career.

Franklin-Myers is a great veteran for the Bengals to go after this offseason, and a three-year, $42 million contract, good for $14 million per year, would be a very reasonable deal for the Bengals to hand out this offseason.

They desperately need better pressure, and adding an interior lineman who can get pressure up the middle while also factoring in outside if needed as well would be great.

Al Golden’s defense needs a ton of help this offseason, and the NFL Draft isn’t the only way to improve the unit. Adding free agents, like Franklin-Myers, should be in the cards for Cincinnati this offseason.

Manzano linking the Bengals to Franklin-Myers makes a ton of sense, and at this $42 million projection, would be more than reasonable to bring the veteran lineman to Cincy.
