Hugo Gonzalez, and Larry Bird.

That’s quite the Boston Celtics club that this year’s rookie just joined, keeping company with one of the greatest players in NBA history.

Gonzalez did it Monday night thanks to a huge stat line against the Milwaukee Bucks. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum were both out, as was Neemias Queta, which opened the door for Gonzalez to do everything.

And check out these stats, because he really did do it all:

  • 18 points
  • 16 rebounds
  • 3 steals
  • 2 blocks

That was a career-high for Gonzalez in points. And a career-high for Gonzalez in rebounds. And a career-high for Gonzalez in steals.

In the process, he did something only done before by Bird.

Gonzalez is the second Celtics rookie to reach that combination of four stats in one game, according to StatMuse, along with Bird.

The 20-year old Gonzalez was the No. 28 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Spain.

Entering Monday night, he was averaging 3.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Given the runway to shine, though, Gonzalez had a monster night.

It’s hard to get much more encouraging for a young Celtics player than doing something that has only been done by Larry Legend.
