The actor who played Dani Rojas in the beloved show “Ted Lasso” has made his professional soccer debut.

What comes next for that actor, Cristo Fernandez, remains to be seen.

Fernandez played 30 minutes in a friendly for USL Championship side El Paso Locomotive on Saturday against New Mexico United, according to Goal’s Tom Hindle.

Hindle adds: “They are yet to make a decision on his future. Verdict expected this week.”

El Paso Locomotive plays in the second-tier of U.S. pro soccer, just below MLS.

Fernandez might not be in his athletic prime anymore at 35 years old, but he’s taking a chance on a dream.

Originally from Guadalajara in Mexico, Fernandez played in the local pro team’s academy but sustained a serious knee injury as a teenager that ended what looked to be a burgeoning soccer career.

He ended up pursuing acting in college, and he moved to London, where he found his way onto Ted Lasso.

Fernandez has also featured in a State Farm commercial with Patrick Mahomes, as well as a recent Old Spice advertisement.

According to Hindle, Fernandez began training with El Paso last Thursday, just two days before the friendly.

It seems he’d be able to improve his contributions with more time in training, but it’s not clear what his squad plans to do next.

For now, Fernandez will just keep trying to prove that this sport is his life.
