To say that the title of ‘America’s Team’ has been slipping away from the Dallas Cowboys is an understatement. Jerry Jones has cycled through countless coaches and a ton of coordinators but they still have not gotten a Super Bowl since 1996. The owner acknowledges that all of these require introspection since he is the constant variable amid all the rough moments. So, a huge change was promised to fans.

Dallas owner admits mistakes, vows for better decisions

Back then, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin were the ones leading the air assault all while Emmitt Smith ran circles around opposing linemen or safeties to add yards. Jones has not replicated this success at all. He may have found a great duo in Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb but it remains a question whether or not they can win the Super Bowl.

For all these shortcomings, Jones apologized to the Cowboys fans. The owner highlighted how much accountability was needed to be taken given how much power he holds in decision-making, via Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News.

“Yes, I do. I know that my way of addressing it, which would be just what we’re sitting here talking to you about, is the best way to correct it. The thing that I would want our fans to know, is how much input that I have into what goes on when they see a ball snapped or a play and how much third-party input,” the Cowboys owner declared.

Notably, it has now been 30 years since Dallas had a parade to celebrate their team’s success in the Super Bowl. They have cycled through seven head coaches, 23 quarterbacks have ran their different offensive schemes, and 25 first-round draft picks had potential to become stars. Jones now promises a new approach when going about team-centered affairs. It all starts with the Cowboys offseason.

“Anybody that’s been around me, anybody, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells as far as any coaches, can’t talk to Larry Lacewell of course. You talk to some of those guys, I scrape the floor trying to get some information to make the best decision that we can. I got my you-know-what kicked when I said the other day I wanted to win Super Bowls. Well I certainly, I really can’t accept just the fault of winning one Super Bowl. And then what? I got more time on my clock than that in my mind,” Jones added.

2026 might be the year when the spell on America’s Team wears off. Jones will be a crucial piece in determining whether or not they can capture the same magic that ran through the streets of Dallas 30 years ago.
