Washington D.C.’s DCSAA boys basketball championship games are set for Sunday, March 1.
The Class AA finale will feature the District’s top-ranked St. John’s Cadets against the Sidwell Friends Quakers. Both teams advanced to the championship game on Friday with St. John’s winning comfortably in a 65-54 result against the Archbishop Carroll Lions. Sidwell Friends reached the title tilt via a hard-fought 49-46 win over the Jackson-Reed Tigers.
The matchup will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.
In the Class A bracket, the Digital Pioneers Academy Pythons will take on the KIPP DC Legacy College Prep Bulldogs. The Pythons will be the favorites after defeating the DC International Dragons, 66-39, while the Bulldogs barely escaped the semifinals in a 55-53 win over the Bard Falcons.
The outcome of the title game is hardly a foregone conclusion, however. The two squads split their two regular-season games with both games ending in blowout fashion by almost identical scores. KIPP took the first game, 64-45, on December 18, before DPA turned the tables with a 63-45 win more than two months later on February 21.
Both the Class A and AA championship games will be played at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., with the Class A game set for 3 p.m. followed by the Class AA contest at 7 p.m.
