ELLAND ROAD, LEEDS — Manchester City face a tough test at Leeds United as they seek to trim Arsenal‘s advantage at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners are five points clear at the summit but have played a game more and City will want to apply some pressure before Mikel Arteta’s men entertain Chelsea in a London derby on Sunday.

Visiting boss Pep Guardiola was dealt a blow before kickoff when Erling Haaland was absent from his matchday squad for the first time in the Premier League or Champions League this season.

City needed an injury-time winner from Phil Foden to beat Leeds 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium in late November and Daniel Farke’s men have only lost twice in 14 Premier League matches since to hugely boost their battle against relegation.

Leeds vs. Man City key moments

45+4 mins: SEMENYO GIVES CITY THE LEAD IN FIRST-HALF STOPPAGE TIME!!!

City save their best move of the half until right at the end. Leeds have just started to look a little leggy in the past few minutes. Cherki and Ait-Nouri pick them apart down the left and the latter’s cross gives Semenyo a simple close-range finish.

40 minsNico O’Reilly with City’s best chance of the game! Bernardo digs out a lovely cross on the right and O’Reilly arrives to meet it with header. Darlow saves superbly but shouldn’t really have had a chance.

4 mins: Glorious chance for Calvert-Lewin! Leeds are all over City in these opening exchanges and really should be ahead. Their top scorer was unmarked – largely because of a shove on Guehi which would have been looked at by VAR – at the far post but slid wide. You were waiting for the net to bulge.
