The Charlotte Hornets entered Thursday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers looking to climb up the Eastern Conference standings with their third straight victory.
In their last two games, the Hornets made 25 three-pointers, the first in NBA history a team has hit 25 or more threes in consecutive games.
The Hornets continued that trend Thursday night, knocking down 22 three-pointers with everyone getting in on the act. Brandon Miller led all scorers with 33 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists.
That said, the night belonged to Kon Knueppel once again. The standout rookie hit eight three-pointers and broke the single season record for three-pointers made by a rookie, despite having 22 games left to play. In total, Knueppel finished with 28 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Following the game, coach Charles Lee had high praise for Knueppel, noting his progression throughout the year.
“Anytime you can be around moments like that that are historic, it’s pretty special. And to see where his story started, where he continues to ascend to, is really cool.”
With the win, Charlotte now sits 29-31, just two games under .500. The last time the Hornets were at .500 or better this season was at 2-2 all the way back in October.
The win also marked their ninth consecutive on the road, a new franchise record.
The Hornets will now look ahead to their next matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers Saturday, their first of two consecutive home games before traveling to face the Boston Celtics.
