Amid all the discourse surrounding USA Hockey’s post-Olympic celebrations, Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk is calling out the White House for “clearly fake” AI-doctored footage that depicts him disparaging Canadians following Team USA’s Olympic gold medal win in Milan.
Tkachuk, a proud American who has spent his entire eight-year NHL career in Canada’s capital, expressed his frustration Thursday after a TikTok posted by the official White House account went viral. The video used fabricated audio to make it appear as though he was using bleeped-out slurs against the very fans he represents in the NHL.
The controversy comes at a delicate time for the Senators’ leader, who is attempting to balance celebrating a historic 2-1 overtime victory over Canada with his role as a beloved figure in Ottawa. “I know those words would never come out of my mouth,” Tkachuk said, explicitly denying the video’s authenticity and distancing himself from the escalating political tension surrounding the team’s recent visit to Washington.

After the United States defeated Canada 2-1 in the gold medal game, there were plenty of edits out there, including an AI video depicting the Tkachuk brothers. The White House’s official account posted the video.

Tkachuk was made to say in the video, “They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach those maple syrup eating f—s a lesson.”

What did Brady Tkachuk say about the AI Tik Tok posted by the White House?
When speaking to the media upon his return to Ottawa, Tkachuk said the video is obviously not him.
“Well, it’s clearly fake, because it’s not my voice, not my lips moving,” Tkachuk said Thursday. “I’m not in control of any of those accounts. I know that those words would never come out of my mouth. So, I can’t do anything about it.”
Tkachuk went onto say “I would never say that. That’s not who I am, so I guess I don’t like that video because that would never come out of my mouth, and never had that thought.”
The captain was also asked about President Trump’s comment, saying the team was “caught a little off guard.”

“I don’t really have an answer. It’s a whirlwind of a moment,” he said. “You can’t control what somebody says. I guess got caught off guard a little bit. You’re talking to the president 10 minutes after you achieve your dream.”

The video on TikTok has 11.1 million views, only ramping up the discourse surrounding Tkachuk.
He has also been accused of saying “close the northern border!” when on the phone with Trump, but said that was not him.
“I’ve been seeing stuff that people think it’s me,’ Tkachuk said. “But if you watch the video, it’s not my voice or something that I never say,” Tkachuk said. “I don’t know how that took a storm on its own when I give everything I have here.”
