There has been no shortage of speculation surrounding the idea that perhaps the Houston Texans would be open to trading C.J. Stroud.
Stroud had a phenomenal rookie campaign in 2023, but he just hasn’t been the same since then and concerns about his future only got worse after his abysmal playoff showing last season.
As a result, speculation has run rampant about the possibility that the Texans could move on from the former No. 2 overall pick, although there has been nothing to suggest the Texans are even considering it.
And we got confirmation of that on Tuesday, when Texans general manager Nick Caserio called the idea that the team could trade Stroud “moronic” and said there aren’t any plans for the team to make that move.
“He’s not going anywhere,” Caserio said of Stroud, per ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime.
The fact that Caserio left zero room for interpretation means there is zero chance that Stroud is moved, which is bad news for quarterback-needy teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and Miami Dolphins.
The Jets and Dolphins are back to the drawing board at quarterback after the failures of Justin Fields and Tua Tagovailoa, respectively, and the Vikings at the very least need competition for J.J. McCarthy.
In Pittsburgh, the Steelers are waiting on Aaron Rodgers and if he doesn’t come back, more help will be needed for a quarterbacks room that currently includes Will Howard and Mason Rudolph.
Despite his down stock, all four teams almost certainly would have had interest in Stroud, as each doesn’t have a sure long-term solution at the position.
But Stroud being available via trade was always a pipe dream.
