Ryan Garcia outpointed Mario Barrios to win the WBC welterweight title Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, claiming the first full world championship of his professional career.

At just 27 years old, Garcia used his speed and counterpunching to control long stretches of the fight against the defending champion, who was making the fourth defense of his belt.

Judges rewarded Garcia’s cleaner work and sharper shots over 12 rounds, scoring the bout 119‑108, 120‑107, and 118‑109, all for Garcia.

The win elevates Garcia, adding his name to a talent-rich welterweight division and positioning him for major unification bouts and high-profile defenses. Barrios, who had been elevated from interim to full champion and had defended his title twice before this fight, suffered his first loss as WBC welterweight titleholder but remains a proven contender at 147 pounds.
