Dillon Brooks is in the midst of his best NBA season yet.
The Oregon product has reached a new level with the Phoenix Suns as a top-2 scoring option, averaging a career-best 21.2 points per game while shooting 44.1% from the field and 34.3% from beyond the arc.
Brooks is among the primary reasons the Suns are in playoff contention a year after missing the postseason. Unfortunately for Brooks, who exited the Suns’ Saturday night contest vs. the Orlando Magic with an injury, it’s likely he’ll be sidelined for several games.
“Phoenix Suns guard Dillon Brooks suffered a broken left hand in Saturday’s double-overtime win over the Orlando Magic and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
“Doctors will meet on Sunday to determine an exact timetable for Brooks, sources said. Brooks’ injury is the latest blow for the Suns, who announced before Saturday’s game that All-Star guard Devin Booker would miss at least one week because of a right hip strain that happened against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday.”
Brooks’ injury diagnosis couldn’t have come at a worse time. The Suns sit at 33-24 and are preparing to play their way into the playoffs with a late regular-season surge. With Booker already sidelined and Brooks expected to miss significant time, it isn’t preposterous to suggest the Suns are in trouble.
Hopefully, Brooks returns to the hardwood soon and continues to play at an exceptionally high level with the Suns.
